This is ideal for candidates who are interested in the educational side of Zoo work. Naples Zoo recently implemented a formal education program and this internship will be the very first in this new department. There will opportunities to learn about informal & formal programming and interpretation, the role of biofacts, how to design programs for visitors on-grounds and for students visiting on field trips, and conduct research related to education. Some interns will also be working on research needed for developing new programs. This internship is designed to provide students with a well-rounded educational experience whereby students will be exposed to a mix of formal and informal education practices in addition to curriculum development and program evaluation. Interns will work directly with our Director of Education to support education department needs.Interns will be expected and required to interact with a diverse team of staff, interns, volunteers and guests. Interns will be expected to follow the directions of paid staff for their personal safety and safety/care of all animals. Interns will be expected to work irregular schedules including weekends and holidays if applicable during placement. This internship will require the ability to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions.
Qualifications:
*Minimum 1 year of college with 2.5/4.0 overall GPA
*Required to work 20 hours a week, including Saturdays (10 -15 weeks and 200 hours)
*Proof of recent tetanus shot (within last 5 years) and negative TB test (within last year) required PRIOR to start date.
*Must submit to drug testing prior to start of internship and prove clear throughout internship
*Must have customer service/guest interaction experience, preferred experience with public speaking
*Prior experience working with children required
*Ability to lift up to ~30 pounds
