PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: This is an unpaid position intended to provide training and professional experience to students or other appropriate individuals whose career intent includes fundraising, donor stewardship, grant writing, administrative support and other institutional advancement duties. This internship will provide practical entry-level experience by working directly with the Prospect Research & Donor Relations Manager and the entire Advancement team to provide support for day to day administration as well as special projects and events.RESPONSIBILIITES:
Create and maintain Prospect files, ensuring all required data is entered in the database
Prepare for and assist with donor and prospect cultivation events
Assist with setting up and management of donor and prospect meetings and activities
Assist with correspondence, including giving appeals and acknowledgements
Assist with maintaining contact report and records
Assist with recording and management of requests for funding
Assist with foundation, corporate and individual philanthropic research
Specific duties may include using online search tools and resources
Assist, as appropriate, execution of special events and departmental activities
Other projects as assignedOBJECTIVES:
Gain professional hands-on experience in fundraising and prospect management at a world-class nonprofit/zoological facility
Support the Advancement Department by assisting with creating histories of proposals, moves, and donations to the capitol campaign, prospect and donor events, stewardship
Enhance the productivity and efficiency of the Advancement/Development Department
Provide excellent service to Zoo Atlantas donors and guests

Qualifications:
Must be 18 years of age or older
Must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program OR a recent graduate in nonprofit management, social work, or related field
Must be willing to submit to a background check and provide proof of negative TB test
Available to intern a minimum of 10 weeks (scheduling can be flexible according to academic schedule and individual needs)
Available to commit a minimum of 20 hours per week
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Raisers Edge experience is preferred but not required
Creativity and initiative to follow through on projects is desired
Energetic and ready to do a variety of jobs
Candidates must have outstanding communication and organizational skills
Strong oral and written communication skills
Organizational, research, and editorial skills
Must be reliable, flexible and work well in a team oriented environmentPHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Must be able to work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.
Zoo Atlanta is open to the public 363 days out of the year, therefore, all positions at Zoo Atlanta may require employees and interns to work some weekends, holidays, and evenings.
