Internship Description: Become familiar with the legislative priorities and policy issues of the association. Create legislative updates and reports for leadership and the members. Create and implement grassroots strategies, organize grassroots campaigns and assist grassroots leadership with their messaging to legislators and the general public, utilize social media where appropriate. If available, attend public hearings and legislative committee meetings. Everything you create (that is not confidential) will be available to you for your professional portfolio and we will help you arrange for academic credit if necessary.
Location: This is a virtual internship. All meetings will be held by phone or Skype.
Timeline: Approximately 10 hours a week for 15 weeks is standard. Exceptions can be made for extenuating situations.
Compensation: This is an unpaid internship, but the experience and contacts are potentially life-long.
Qualifications:
Ideal Candidate: Organized, detail-oriented, and great at people management. Please have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Show some knowledge in environmental ad agricultural sciences and must be familiar with grassroots campaigns (i.e., policies, functionality,etc…). Comfort and proficiency with technology like e-mail, the Internet, social media, MS Office, and have the willingness to learn user-friendly software. Able to multi-task and work independently. Must be reliable, punctual, and able to attend phone meetings a few times a week to conduct interviews and meet with staff. Being adaptable to changes in projects and priorities as required.
