The National Federation of Federal Employees (NFFE), affiliated with the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, AFL-CIO, represents 110,000 federal employees. With nearly 200 locals throughout the country, NFFE members work in many departments and agencies of the federal government including the Department of Defense, the Forest Service, the Department of Veterans Affairs, the General Services Administration, the National Park Service, the Army Corps of Engineers, the Department of Housing and Urban Development, and the Passport Services division of the Bureau of Consular Affairs (Department of State).NFFE is seeking a motivated intern for the 2013 Fall semester. Our interns will have the opportunity to learn about the issues affecting federal employees while working closely with NFFE policy and research staff.
Responsibilities:
-Attend various meetings, briefings, and Congressional hearings
-Assist in activities to lobby lawmakers on Capitol Hill
-Draft press releases, letters, and internal news pieces
-Conduct research on issues affecting federal employees
-Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
-Undergraduate student in a related academic concentration
-Demonstrated knowledge or interest in the labor movement
-Excellent oral and written communication skills
-Outstanding organization and attention to detail
-Ability to work both collaboratively and independently
-Computer literacy in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Paid Internship Info:
$600 Stipend + $20/week for travel expenses

NFFE is seeking a motivated undergraduate to work three to four days a week. The intern will have the opportunity to learn more about NFFE and issues affecting federal employees such as: the Paid Parental Leave Act, passport security, social security fairness, VA collective bargaining, the Federal Retirement Reform Act, the National Security Personnel System, and the Employee Free Choice Act, all while working closely with NFFE policy and research staff.
