Social Media Intern

Description:
The Social Media Intern position involves writing web copy, optimizing and creating images, creating articles in a content management system. Multimedia (video, photography) editing and production experience a plus. Interns will participate in staff meetings and projects and get an inside look at the workings of a grant-funded, educational project that will have a national reach. As an intern you will get to work with a variety of our staff, while working on real projects that will help us grow. Ideal candidate will posses a strong interest in social media, journalism and a mind for new ideas. Please submit three work samples (links or screen shots).
Qualifications:
Strong interest in social media, journalism and a mind for new ideas
Excellent written and verbal communication
Creative with an eye for design
Knowledge of digital media software - Photoshop or other graphic design software, etc. is preferred
Knowledge of video editing software - iMovie, Final Cut, or Windows Live Movie Maker is a plus
Knowledge of social media - Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, blogs, etc.
Willingness to create video blogs, write press releases, and Facebook posts daily
Energy, with a desire to come up with fresh ideas on how to grow our online presence
Ability to identify a target market and speak to that consumer through social media
Ability to contribute individually, and participate in cross-functional teams

Our primary digital initiative, Heritage Education, will provide educational resources for K-12 history teachers and college professors. It will be an innovative, easy-to-use system that offers access to more than 10,000 essays that have appeared in American Heritage bundled with primary documents. A key goal of the project will be to align with Common Core State Standards and meet the needs of ELA and social studies teachers in grades 7-12, including AP courses.
